This case is more commonly known as the Red Sea Ferry Disaster and is reported to have involved one of the largest losses of life at sea.
Our London office was instructed by the ship’s P&I club as soon as reports were first received of the tragedy.
Two partners immediately flew off to Egypt to investigate the casualty and they, together with our team in London, put a co-ordinated strategy in place for the handling of the many death and personal injury claims. This case was politically sensitive and required a great deal of tact and diplomacy to resolve.
In addition, our team had to navigate their way through the complexities of Egyptian law before they could provide recommendations to the clients.
They worked tirelessly throughout and remained on the ground for three weeks, eventually laying the foundations for the settlement of all death and personal injury claims, which took place within a year, while at the same time gathering information necessary for the club to present to the International Group.
