Celso is a solicitor advocate in our London office practising as an international insurance lawyer. He specialises in cross border disputes and conflict of laws issues in complex Latin American and European insurance and reinsurance disputes, particularly involving energy, construction, property, engineering and business interruption losses. Celso has also been involved in Bermuda form, back-to-back, non-disclosure and misrepresentation issues in English High Court litigation and arbitrations. He has assisted London reinsurers with a US$ multi-million claim in relation to property and business interruption losses at a port in South America. He has also advised London and North American underwriters in relation to the resolution of a US$ multi-million business interruption claim at a steel plant, reported as the largest ever Brazilian loss.
Celso joined Thomas Cooper in September 2009. He was previously a solicitor at the London office of an US insurance law firm. Celso is qualified both as a barrister (1997) and as a solicitor advocate in the UK and, in the US, as a New York Attorney. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, FCIArb, and is a fluent Portuguese and Spanish speaker.
