John is a partner in our London office, specialising in Shipping and International Trade and Commodities.
John advises on a wide range of charterparty, bill of lading and contract of affreightment disputes including claims for cargo damage, contamination, unsafe port, dangerous cargo, demurrage and detention, off-hire, withdrawal, piracy, and general average. John also advises on international sale contract disputes involving a wide range of commodities and has extensive experience in both High Court litigation and international arbitration, including LMAA, LCIA, ICC and trade arbitrations.
John’s practice covers the entire range of shipping and international trade matters. He acts for international traders, ship owners, charterers, and cargo interests, as well as the major P&I and defence clubs.
Career
John joined Thomas Cooper as a partner in 2010. He was previously at Richards Butler (combined with Reed Smith in 2007) for 5 years and Ince & Co. for 4 years. John read law and obtained an LLM in commercial law at Trinity Hall, Cambridge.
