Douglas is the head of our Piraeus office. He specialises in all aspects of wet and dry shipping and is a key member of our Emergency Response team. Douglas has experience of a wide variety of shipping problems, from withdrawal and hire disputes, to cargo claims, groundings, fires and total losses. In addition, he has considerable experience in banking.

Career

Douglas became a partner in 1989 after joining the firm as an articled clerk in 1983. He is fluent in Spanish and French and a member of the British Hellenic Chamber of Commerce in Athens. Douglas read law at the University of Manchester.


Douglas Bateson heads the Greek practice and plays a leading role in diverse shipping litigation and arbitration topics. He often acts for shipowners on demurrage, charterparty and fraudulent bills of lading cases, with further standout mandates acting for insurers on high-profile UK casualty claims. Clients praise his ability to "keep the case focused on the main issues."
