Ira is a partner in our London office. She is our leading yacht specialist, having been practising in this specialist field for over 10 years. Ira acts primarily for yacht insurers and Lloyd’s Syndicates but also for yacht owners (non-insurance disputes), yards (including manufacturers), marine surveyors and project managers. Ira handles complex yacht insurance coverage disputes, salvage claims, arrests and other marine-related litigation of a multi-jurisdictional nature, including complex personal injury claims, product liability claims and professional negligence.

She is regularly involved in mediating disputes, and has defended criminal proceedings under the Merchant Shipping Act, as well as adjudicating racing rule arbitrations.

Career

Ira joined Thomas Cooper in April 2008 as a Partner having qualified as a Solicitor in 1997. She sits as chairman of the British Marine Federation's Legal Services Committee, and also sits on its Insurance, Financial and Legal Services Association's committee. Ira is an experienced offshore sailor, having sailed extensively in the Atlantic and Pacific as professional crew.
