Tom’s practice includes casualty work (for example collisions and groundings), contractual disputes, including those arising out of charter parties (for example disputes about off-hire, speed and performance, unsafe ports and early re-delivery), ship management contracts and bills of lading. He also acts for and against marine insurers in relation to marine insurance disputes and conducts general commercial litigation.
Tom has been quoted as “providing excellent practical advice” in the Legal 500 directory.
Career
Tom joined Thomas Cooper in June 2007 and became a partner in May 2009. He qualified as a solicitor in 1993. Tom is also a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and worked in the London marine insurance market both as a claims handler and underwriter until 1988. He then attended City University Business School and obtained a Master of Science (Distinction) in Shipping, Trade and Finance before qualifying as a lawyer. Tom trained at Shaw and Croft and practised there from 1993 to 2007.
