Thomas Cooper LLP hires Shipping Specialists Andrew Hawkins and Tony Riches

International law firm, Thomas Cooper, is pleased to announce the appointment of two new solicitors to their London Shipping group, Andrew Hawkins and Tony Riches.

Andrew is a solicitor in the Shipping and Commercial Litigation Group. He advises on a wide range of contentious shipping and commercial matters, acting predominantly for ship-owner and charterer clients and their insurers. His practice focuses on ‘dry’ shipping matters, although he also has acted in matters arising from vessel casualties, as well as a number of high-value ship construction disputes. Andrew joins from MFB Solicitors.

Andrew Hawkins comments: “Thomas Cooper has an excellent reputation for its expertise in the shipping, international trade and insurance, and for its user-friendly approach. I am delighted to be part of this talented team.”

Tony is a solicitor and ex-mariner who has wide Shipping law experience with a particular focus on advising on and managing complex casualty situations, drawing on his experience as both a mariner and a lawyer. He is experienced in providing legal and practical advice to ship-owners, charterers, P&I clubs and property insurers concerning marine casualties, salvage, general average, collisions, charterparty disputes and cargo claims. Tony joins from Bentleys Stokes & Lowless.

Tony Riches comments: “I am thrilled to join Thomas Cooper.  This is a great opportunity to work with some of the best shipping practitioners in the business.  I am looking forward to working within the team to help clients resolve current disputes and to prepare for issues that emerge in tomorrow’s shipping and insurance markets.”

Tim Kelleher, Senior Partner commented: “We are delighted that Andrew and Tony have joined our Shipping and International Trade Team. They are both first class additions to our existing solicitors in the team and bring with them enthusiasm, energy and skills that both complement and improve the team. I know they will fit in well with their new colleagues and I wish them both every success in the future at the Firm.”
